Are Peace and Impeachment Possible?
Strategies for saving our Constitution, Economy and Environment
OJAI, California
On Tuesday, April 22, Ventura County will join with others around the country holding Iraq Town Hall meetings. This event will be held at the Ojai Retreat, 160 Besant Road, Ojai, California, 93023.
The reception which will include food and drink will allow citizens to meet and visit with speakers David Swanson, a leading Constitutional Advocate based in Washington D.C. and Phil Cohen, member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, (IVAW). The Ventura County Board of Supervisors and Ventura and Ojai City Counsel Members will be invited to attend. Following the talks an open mike town hall meeting will ensue. All are welcome.
Swanson has been playing a major role in the effort to preserve and protect citizens rights, now under heavy assault by the Bush Administration. He will address many of the critical issues of our times.
Following the reception, Swanson and Cohen will address the crowd and this will be followed by an open mike town hall session where community members will have the opportunity to voice comments and ask questions.
David Swanson, co-founder of afterdowningstreet.org, says, "Many voices in Congress say they want to end the occupation of Iraq, but they refuse to stop funding it. Many say they're horrified by every new revelation of impeachable offenses, including the torture authorization meetings that have lately been in the news. But they refuse to hold impeachment hearings. Instead of fulfilling their oaths of office and doing what we elected them to do, they say they want to work only on winning the next elections. But history suggests that's the best way to risk losing the elections. Breaking this mindset is entirely possible and easier than many changes that have been accomplished through citizen activism in the past. We just have to choose to do it."
This event is an opportunity for the citizens of Ojai and Ventura County to join with the rest of the nation in calling for ending the Iraq War and saving our Constitution, Economy, and Environment. The reception starts at 5:30 PM, the lecture at 7 PM, SHARP, the town hall meeting at 8 PM. A $10. contribution is suggested for the entire event , but no one will be turned away.
Costs associated with putting on this event are not likely to be covered by the suggested donation ,so anything that anyone can do to help is much appreciated.
The event is being organized by Ventura County Citizens for Impeachment and the Ojai Peace Coalition.
Endorsements have been received from Veterans for Peace; Ventura County Stop the War; The Peace Coalition of Greater Ventura; Integrity Now, Ojai; the Center for Conscious Change and ANSWER,VC.
